Twenty people accused of gang-related Nevada prison fight

Twenty people were indicted, most recently arrested in connection with a Nevada prison fight that killed three inmates and injured five others.

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said he was arrested on March 5 of the fatal incident in the Ely State Prison. A total of 20 people face multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, the use of one deadly weapon, intent to promote or assist a criminal gang, and the murder of five counts of attempted murder, the use of a solid weapon to promote or assist a criminal weapon to promote or assist a criminal weapon.

“The pursuit of justice has not stopped at the prison gates, and those responsible for the deaths of three prisoners in the Eli prison will be held accountable,” Ford said in a statement. “We remain committed to ensuring that violence and misconduct within our state’s correctional system meet the full power of the law.”

The fight took place on July 30, 2024. Three prisoners died: Anthony Williams, 41, Connor Brown, 22, and Zacharia Luz, 43.

One of the accused men, Andrew Emerich, was arrested in Reno 14 weeks after being released from the Eli prison in January, according to KSNV-TV.

In December 2022, several prisoners there went on a hunger strike on things that advocates and some family members described as unsafe conditions and food parts.
