The chief medical examiner announced on Friday that the couple announced nine days after the death of Santa Fe in Mexico that the cause of the death of legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa has been revealed.
Both Hackman and Arakawa’s deaths were found to be “natural causes,” despite six days apart: Dr. Heather Jarrell said Dr. Arakawa may have died of Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome on February 11, while Hackman died of Hackman (Heart-based heart disease based) on February 18 due to “Pacemaker Information in Heart Disease” and also due to the contribution of “Advanced Alzheimer Disease”.

Investigators also shared what they believed was the last day of their lives on February 11: Her errands were seen in surveillance videos that day, such as going to a veterinarian, farmer tagging and resume, and had an email conversation sometime on the day. On February 11, at 5:15 pm, Arakawa used a clicker to visit the private community where she and Hackman’s home were. After that, “no additional upcoming communication or activity will be issued” led investigators to believe she died on February 11 (“there is no exact scientific method to find out the exact time of death,” Dr. Jarrell said.)
Investigators believe Hackman died a week later on February 18, and an autopsy revealed the main causes were “widespread heart disease” and advanced Alzheimer’s disease. Police did not share any other specific details about Hackman’s life in the last week after his wife’s death, although medical examiners said Hackman had an empty stomach at the time of his death.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Hanta Viral Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) is a rare infectious disease that begins with flu-like symptoms and rapidly develops into a more serious disease. It can cause life-threatening lung and heart problems. The disease is usually caused by airborne hantavirus that inhales rodents, feces or saliva. “It is not clear how Arakawa was infected or whether she knew about her infection before she died.
According to Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza, the actor, his wife, 34, was found dead at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico on February 26. The dead dog was in a crate a few days ago after the veterinary procedure, and investigators pointed out that the dog could not be a carrier of HP.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said in its initial statement that “fouls are not the factor of those deaths” but “an active and ongoing investigations” are underway.
Shortly after the news of the death, Hackman’s daughter Elizabeth spoke to TMZ and said she and her family suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. The coroner’s office quickly dismissed the theory because the local gas company found no evidence of gas leaks, which the autopsy report confirmed.
Hackman’s engaging engaging and simple humanity has made him a fixture on screen for 40 years, and he has starred in classic movies France Connection,,,,, Royal Tenenbaums,,,,, conversation, and Superman.
He retired from his acting career in 2004, receiving five Oscar nominations (including two victories), three Golden Globes (and the Cecil B. Demeer Award), and two BAFTA awards.
