Jackye and Lauren of Amazing Race reflect on fear of conquering the stairs

Jackye Clayton and Lauren McKinney Probably no win Amazing game But the sisters did conquer some big fears.
In the season 37 premiere, fans were excited to see Clayton, 51, as she and McKinney, 61, were tasked with climbing a series of huge stairs at Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong. Clayton explained on the show that her series of steps suffered a horrible fall that required her surgery and triggered phobia.
“I think about it every time I see a staircase,” Clayton told specifically US Weekly Thursday March after the elimination of the game series. “Like last week in basketball, I had to hold the popcorn, no aisle. I was like, “Oh, let me do it.” “I just wanted to call my sister and say, “Lauren, I have no guardrails to go up the stairs. ”
Clayton couldn’t help feeling “so proud” for facing fear, and she was even more grateful for the series including it in this episode.
“I don’t know if everyone is watching, it’s important to me. This is what I jumped out of the plane or tried to do a flying plane,” she said. “Like, it was an important deal for me. So, I ended up being proud of myself.”
After watching the show, Clayton looked at the aerial footage of the long stairs and climbed up them in surprise. Although fear of stairs may not be an ideal feature Amazing game Competitor Clayton explained that she has trained and practiced since the stairs popped up.
“The first thing we have to do is run off the stairs,” she quipped. “‘And I was like, ‘Oh, OK. We blocked the stairs.'”
McKinney was so proud of her sister not flinched.
“I never felt that she was totally disappointed me. All I could think of is, ‘Wow, there are people watching this because there is fear. They don’t talk to someone about things because they feel like they’ll be laughed at or judged, or because it’s so small, because it’s so secondary.” us. “Maybe this will help all of us stop. Everyone is going through something on their own, sometimes on their own journey of silence. You can reach out and help someone and make them actually the opposite.”
Besides Clayton climbing the stairs, McKinney also had a moment when she stepped up her first hurdle of the season. McKinney’s mission is to climb a Chaun’s Bund Booke Tower, and she has no problem. But dealing with the height-themed challenge is not McKinney’s radar.
“We look at each season Amazing game. Before that, we decide in advance who will do this, who will eat who if it appears, who will do it, and she will do it all the heights. “She explained. “Put me in the mud.” I would climb over the dirt, I would push the cow, I didn’t care, swim, whatever she was going to do would jump out of the plane, no matter what. So I won’t do that. ”
After Clayton stirred up emotional moments on the stairs, McKinney knew there were a lot of delays on the two and was already in the last position. So she decided to give her sister some rest and take control of the tower herself.
“She just conquered those stairs. I had to conquer the tower,” McKinney told us. “So I just know something I don’t like, I’m not even afraid. It just disappeared. I just went straight in, ‘I have to do that.'”
After McKinney completed the feat, she felt “joy” and “pride”.
“There is a feeling of when you’ve overcome what you don’t think you don’t have. I know my sister is waiting for me at the bottom.” She reflects. “I can’t see her, but I know she’s there and cheering me on. So it’s definitely amazing and quite.”
Amazing game It airs on CBS at 9:30 pm ET and is available on Paramount+ the next day.
