Vice President JD Vance visited Capitol Hill to provide support for his “friend” Elbridge “Bridge” Colby, President Donald Trump’s controversial nominee for the third Pentagon candidate, deputy deputy secretary of policy.
“Bridge predicts in many ways that we are going to talk about five years in four years, a decade before the road. He saw it around the corner and hardly anyone else saw it around” Vance said in his opening remarks at a confirmation hearing held by the Senate Armed Forces Committee on Tuesday.
Vance continued: “If you look at his long career in defense policy, what he said, frankly, alienates Democrats and Republicans. He also says something I think Democrats and Republicans will agree.”

The Vice President praised Colby as a “good guy” and an “honest guy”.
“You need people who want to tell you the truth. We’re going to look at people who you want to disagree with,” Vance said.
The main conservative panel said the Defense Department nominee was the “best person” to implement Trump and Heggs’ agenda.
The presence of the vice president shows that the White House wants to take support seriously, and Colby’s views have stopped some hawkish senators.
This is the second confirmation of the Vance hearing, second only to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who also established close ties with the Vice President.
Colby said in his own opening speech: “There is a real risk of a major war and we cannot lose a war. I recognize that these reality is my bones. It is my great hope that we can spend it peacefully in the way of the coming years and with the power to make us and our alliance stronger and more sustainable foundations.”
“I am willing and ready to interact with those who disagree with me and adapt to my point of view based on persuasive arguments, the truth is that even if I think they have to adapt to them, and I love our great country and will put forward its interests first.”
Roger Wicker, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, asked Colby The specified location, “The United States has a strong interest in defending Taiwan, but without it, Americans can survive.”
“yOur view of the importance of Taiwan to the United States seems to be quite soft,” Wick told Colby.
Colby objected to this, believing that he had been launching a warning flare that the United States’ “military balance has declined” against China.
“What I’ve been trying to signal out is that for us, focusing and making our troops effective and reasonable to do more for the Taiwanese and Taiwanese and Japanese,” Colby said.

“So, my position on Taiwan values is consistent. But I’m very worried, Senator, I think it’s an agreement in various governments on both sides, and it’s, you know, the military balance has fallen. So I’m trying to avoid that because we’re not fully prepared.”

The committee’s top Democratic Senator Jack Reed urged Colby to see his views on Russia and Ukraine.
“In November 2023, you said: ‘Invasion of Ukraine is an evil act of the Russians, and I morally support Ukraine’s defense.” Senator, do you still agree with this statement? ” Reed asked, D-ri.
“I think I stick to my record, but at this point, I think the situation where the President is trying to restore the peace process is very delicate.

Senator Kristen Gillibrand, D-ny, put pressure on Colby, is Russia a “opponent” or the United States a “ally”
“Russia poses a major military threat to Europe and a major military threat to the motherland,” Colby said. “We can… reduce the potential for direct confrontation with Russia.”

Colby’s confirmation process shocked the Iranian Hawks, at least R-AK Senator Tom Cotton privately expressed doubts. Wick had previously told Call Call that Colby’s nomination was released “a concern for many senators.”
