Texas lawmakers introduce bills to ban everyone, including adults

Texas lawmakers have introduced legislation that would modify the state’s prohibition on gender transition procedures or treatment for minors, and also applies to adults in Lone Star states.

HB 3399, filed by Republican Rep. Brent Money, will change the language that prohibits gender-changing procedures or treatment for children by replacing the word “child”.

If the concept is inconsistent with the human biological gender, the advice of money will prohibit medical procedures “to transition a person’s biological gender” or “to confirm that person’s perception of the human gender”.

Under the bill, all Texans will ban surgery and puberty block medications, except for doctors whose parents agree to normalize puberty and perform normalization and surgery on people with “verifiable hereditary developmental genetic disease”, and doctors who prescribe puberty lockdown medications to children.

People who have begun to start puberty medication must be weaned from the medication in a “medical-friendly” manner to “minimize the risk of complications.”

According to the Williams Institute of UCLA Law School, Texas has an estimated 93,000 transgender adults, making it the third largest country. About 30,000 Texans between the ages of 13 and 18 are transgender, making it the third largest country, behind California and New York.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill in 2023 that prohibits gender transition treatment for transgender young people, a measure approved by the state legislature.

According to Fox 7, the law was challenged in the Texas Supreme Court, and the lawsuit seeks to block the law, which argues that the injunction has devastating consequences for transgender teenagers who do not have access to treatment recommended by doctors and parents.

However, the court upheld the injunction with an 8-1 ruling last summer. Only one judicial judge disagrees, saying the state’s Supreme Court allows the state to “legise to remove basic parental rights.”

Texas is one of at least 25 states whose laws restrict or prohibit gender-change processing for transgender minors.
