The New York Yankees seem to think they are doing everything they can to bounce back from the loss of Juan Soto.

But their rivals, the Houston Astros, apparently think their best player is undervalued.

It’s clear that the Astros are willing to trade Kyle Tucker this offseason as he enters his final year of franchise control. The left-handed hitter is expected to be making big money this time next year.

With Soto headed to Queens, the Yankees have a hole to fill in their outfield, and they’re eyeing Tucker.

The two sides have reportedly spoken, but appear to be deeply divided.

According to NJ.com, the Astros believe the Yankees offered the three-time All-Star “junk.”

“I talked to people in the Astros front office and was told the Yankees weren’t offering anything the Astros wanted,” NJ.com’s Randy Miller wrote Thursday. “Nothing. They thought. What the Yankees offer is garbage.”

The executives Miller was interviewed by apparently said the Yankees were only offering low-level prospects.

The Astros are clearly hoping to get a contract from reigning Rookie of the Year Louis Gill.

Houston also has had discussions with the Chicago Cubs about outfielder Seiya Suzuki and infielder Isaac Paredes.

MLB’s winter meetings are now over, but there are still about 10 weeks until spring training begins. So, there is still plenty of time.

The Yankees instead signed Max Fried to an eight-year, $218 million contract, the most lucrative deal ever for a lefty.

If the Yankees do acquire Tucker, it wouldn’t be the first time they trade a left fielder entering a contract year. That’s what they did with Soto last year.

Soto finished third in American League MVP voting, two spots behind Aaron Judge, and signed a 15-year, $765 million deal with the Mets, the richest team in sports history.
