Andrew Tate, an influential man on the right, and his brother, Tristan, drove Romania into the United States in a private jet, forbidding them from leaving the country, where they were detained on multiple charges, including sexual exploitation, after prosecutors raised restrictions.

Since 2022, the brothers are U.S. and British nationals who have been detained in Romania for suspected trafficking, sexual misconduct and money laundering, and running an organized criminal organization. They deny misconduct.

Romanian authorities said Thursday they “modified” the ban on the defendants leaving Romanian territory, although prosecutors also said criminal prosecutions against the couple continued.

People familiar with the case said they had already flew out of the United States on a private plane from Florida.

As the Financial Times first reported, Romanian authorities’ decision to lift travel restrictions on self-proclaimed misogynistic influencers came after pressure in the United States. Washington prompted Romanian authorities to lift restrictions on the brothers, including interventions from senior officials.

Andrew Tate has built millions of followers on an online platform targeting young men who promote masculinity and reject feminism.

His case has been supported by right-wing social media, such as former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who conducted sympathetic interviews with the brothers.

The Bucharest lawyer for the Tate Brothers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
