The creation of a new Covid-19 vaccine is part of the NextGen initiative, the Biden administration’s massive $4.7 billion project, launched in 2023 to simplify the development of new vaccines. The Vaxart vaccine is funded through an agreement with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Bureau (Barda), a department of the strategic preparation and response department under the HHS umbrella.
Fox Digital learned that Barda has developed approximately $460 million in new vaccines for Vaxart, totaling $240 million, which has authorized preliminary research.
