American Airlines flights escorted by fighter jets amid safety concerns

Dramatic video shows Italian fighters accompanying a transferred American Airlines flight due to “safety issues.”

A spokesman for the airline told Fox News Numbers that the AA 292 flight “was safely landed in Rome on Sunday afternoon due to safety concerns, which later proved impossible.”

The video shows the plane was escorted by Italian Air Force jets before landing at Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome.

Flight 292 has left John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, which was transferred to New Delhi, India.

The airline did not specify what the cause of the safety issues was, but under the Delhi (DEL) airport protocol, inspections were required before landing at the DEL.

The plane was inspected and cleaned by Roman law enforcement officers.

There were nearly 200 people and 15 crew members on board.

Neeraj Chopra, one of the passengers in the flight, told the Associated Press that the captain warned passengers that the plane would need to land in New Delhi for about three hours before it could turn around due to a change in “safety status”.

“This flight will be overnight in Rome to allow the required crew to rest and then continue to Delhi as soon as tomorrow,” the airline said.
