The U.S. President promises “big guys” to deal with reciprocal tariffs

Trade will dominate the agenda as U.S. President Donald Trump welcomes Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the White House.

Senior White House officials said Thursday they hope to reach a bilateral trade deal between the two countries this year. They added that the two leaders will focus on areas such as trade, defense, energy, infrastructure and regional partnerships.

“The Indian government has had some early body language that has been well received by the Trump administration,” a White House official said. “They are early but moderate steps.”

“I expect you to see what [the] Today’s meeting is a further momentum towards consolidating the fair – I stressed the term fair – a bilateral trade arrangement between our two dynamic and growing economies. ” said the official.
