‘It makes sense’: Republican Party, Dems unites behind Trump’s plan to fire a penny

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democrats and Republican lawmakers reached a consensus on President Donald Trump when they decided to cancel a penny, telling Fox News on Capitol Hill that it would make sense to stop making money.
Trump announced on Sunday that he is instructing the Treasury Department to stop producing new pennies and wrote in a truth society post that the cost of minting a single single cent coin is more than two cents.
Fox News Digital asked members of Congress to provide two cents to understand Trump’s elimination of coins, while lawmakers on both sides of the aisle said they agreed with his decision.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla. Speaking to Fox News Digital, it said eliminating what Trump has done since taking office is “probably the best”.

According to the U.S. Mint, the government agency that makes coins, the Treasury Department lost more than $85 million in pennies produced in 2024.
“If it takes two cents to make a cent meaningful, doesn’t it?” R-Fla. Rep. Carlos Giménez told Fox News Digital.
R-Ariz. Rep. Juan Ciscomani said it was “financial meaning” because the cost of making money was more than the value of a coin.

“I’ve talked to some of the local businesses in our community to see how this affects them. The question is, will this make their lives easier or more difficult?” Latimer said. “If they told me it would be easy, it was a good decision. They told me it was even harder when they had to calculate sales tax and something on zero or hit the ball, it wasn’t a good idea.”
