Story: On Tuesday, confusion about Elon Musk’s acquisition of Openai’s status.
A day ago, Tesla-Boss-turned-Trump said he offered $97.4 billion to buy a nonprofit that controls Chatgpt Maker.
Openai Boss Sam Altman said at the AI summit in Paris that the whole thing is nonsense:
Reporter: “Can you react to Elon Musk’s proposal?
Ultraman: “I have nothing to say. I mean, it’s ridiculous.”
Reporter: “What’s going on?”
Altman: “The company is not for sale. The company is not for sale. It’s another strategy he’s trying to mess with us, but it’s no big deal.”
Reporter: “What about the amount he provided?”
Ultraman: “I mean, that’s OK.”
Now, Openai’s board of directors said it has not received any official bids from Musk.
This is according to Reuters source.
However, one of Musk’s lawyers insisted on sending bids to Openai’s outside lawyers via email.
He said he had no control over whether to forward it to the board.
Musk co-founded Openai as a nonprofit in 2015, but he later had a disagreement on the direction and funding of the project.
Openai is now seeking to transition to for-profit entities, which it says is necessary to ensure the capital needed to build the best AI model.
In November, Musk asked a judge to enact an injunction to stop the changes, saying Chatgpt should stick to its initial mission.
He suggested it could be merged with its own competitive startup – XAI.
