A USPS employee was recently sentenced to jail after she and two accomplices stole checks worth more than $24 million, according to the Justice Department.
U.S. Attorney Dena J. King, a U.S. attorney for the Western North Carolina, announced the sentencing in a February 7 press release. Charlotte resident Nakedra Shannon (30) and Desiray Carter, 30, were sentenced to 60 months and 30 years old to 54 months in prison for crimes last week.
Shannon, hired by USPS, stole checks in and out while working as a mail-processing clerk at a distribution center in Charlotte, from March 2021 to July 2023.
According to the press release, Shannon admitted to stealing the check for the job from April to July 7, 2023. Her accomplices include Carter and Donell Gardner, who were sentenced to 54 months in prison and three years of supervised release in 2023.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office noted that the defendant pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit fraud and theft of government property in financial institutions. They were ordered to pay $113,333.87 in compensation together and separately.
