Winter storms are expected to bring more snowfall in New York, Boston and the Northeast

A winter storm across the country is expected to bring strong winter weather to the Northeast on Saturday, with snow forecasting up to 7 inches in Boston and other cities.

In New York, snow is expected to start falling on Saturday afternoon and then turn into a mix of rain, snow and sleet. According to the National Weather Service, there may be three to five inches of snow and sleet to certain areas of the metropolitan area.

Areas around Boston may drop an inch of snow every hour on Saturday night, with snow expected to move between 5 and 11 inches from the East Coast on Sunday.

In the Northeast, winter weather consultation and winter storm warnings are in effect until Sunday in New York, New Jersey and New England. Saturday’s winter storm warning also traveled from Wisconsin through Minnesota to Dakota.

This is the second winter storm that has been spread throughout the country in the week, forming a dividing line between warm rainy weather and cold rainy weather in the north, somewhere in between.

On the southern edge of the storm, Philadelphia is likely to see snow, sleet and frozen rain on Saturday morning, and the icy roads will make driving dangerous, forecasters warn.

Earlier Saturday, the storm was expected to bring heavy snow in Dakota to the Great Lakes. Frank Pereira, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said a small shift could seriously affect where the snowfall was the biggest.

Areas with the most snowfall are expected to be in the upstate New York and New England, Mr Pereira said.

Southern areas, including Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., are likely to experience sleet and freezing rain.

By Sunday night, Eagles football fans will be radiating a clear atmosphere in the sunny sky, leaving Philadelphia without new precipitation, but freezing temperatures to celebrate or mourn the results of the Super Bowl.
