Panthers’ Bryce Young praised for praying when Eagles player injured

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young nearly led his team to a victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but he was praised for one play in the game.

Eagles defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson was injured in the fourth quarter. Young seemed to see Gardner-Johnson lying on the ground. He lowered his head and prayed for a moment.

NFL fans on X seized on the moment and quickly tweeted about it.

It was a rough day for Gardner-Johnson, who left the game in the first quarter with a concussion. After getting hurt in the fourth quarter, he slowly walked off the field.

Young was 19-of-34 passing for 191 yards, a touchdown and one interception. Carolina lost to Philadelphia 22-16.

Ultimately, Young was frustrated by the loss.

“No participation trophy, no consolation,” he said via the team’s website. “Coach always says this: It’s about us, when we execute, we’re at our best. We were able to focus on that, and again, that’s not a consolation today, but it gave us something on film That same mindset that can serve as a foundation, the opportunity to discover what we do well, how we continue to do it, how we build on it, and how we can improve things.

“I think just being at the forefront is good for growth, but now it’s our responsibility to make sure we actually grow and take those steps.”

Young is coming off a solid redemption season after filling in for veteran Andy Dalton early in the year.

He passed for 1,572 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions in 10 games. After losing to Philadelphia, Carolina dropped to 3-10 on the season.
