Half of Atlanta’s Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers yelled, causing major delays at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

Weather was a common feature as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport experienced its worst days on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, only half the Transportation Security Administration employees showed up to work at the world’s busiest airport.

“Today was a challenge due to TSA staffing issues. Our employees stepped in as customer service agents to assist. In emergencies, crises, abnormal operations, we step up and take the necessary actions,” airport spokesman Ann said Diego Bell.

When TSA agents arrived for their shift Wednesday afternoon, things returned to normal and the security line resumed its roughly 15-minute wait.

That was different on Tuesday, officials said.

“It was the end of a three-day weekend and we had major events at the airport, including of course the College Football Playoff, MLK, the threat of weather – so everyone was arriving 4-5-6 hours early,” Gobert said.

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens wants the TSA to do a better job of staffing its checkpoint operations, and he wants them to have technological advancements and better training.

He also wants the Transportation Security Administration to move its training facilities to Atlanta to help the world’s busiest airport operate more efficiently.
