Finnish Customs will not launch criminal investigation into Eagle S crew
COPENHAGEN (Reuters) – Finnish customs said on Thursday there were no grounds for a criminal investigation into the crew of the Eagle S oil tanker over a cargo of Russian fuel.
Finnish police seized the tanker last month and said they suspected it had dragged its anchor on the seabed, damaging a Finland-Estonia power line and four telecommunications cables.
Customs seized separate shipments of unleaded gasoline and diesel and reiterated on Thursday that the shipments were listed as products subject to sanctions against Russia.

But the customs office said in a statement that because the ship entered Finnish territorial waters at the request of Finnish authorities, the crew could not be considered to have deliberately breached sanctions legislation.
“The ship’s cargo will remain detained by Finnish customs for the time being,” it added.
