Democratic senators mocked on social media for ‘lies and stupidity’ at Hegseth hearing: ‘Clown show’

Social media users criticized a Democratic senator’s claim that Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth would lead a military invasion of Greenland if nominated.
The Senate Armed Services Committee held Hegers’ confirmation hearing on Tuesday, giving lawmakers a chance to question Trump’s defense choices. One Democrat in particular, Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, sparked a heated reaction on social media when she asked Hegers whether he would invade Greenland or take over the Panama Canal.
“Trump has never reached out strategically. I would never make a public statement to take command of the president one way or another,” Hegseth said in response to the question.
“Hirono plays judge, jury and executioner based on lies and stupidity,” Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., wrote in a post on X.

Brigette Gabriel, founder and president of ACT for America, wrote, “Mazie Hirono is probably the least intelligent member of Congress, and that’s saying something.”
“Such questioning is disproportionate to her position as a United States senator,” Gabrielle told X. “I stand with Pete Hegseth.”
A military assessment said Hegseth was a “talented, battle-hardened leader”
During the hearing, Hirono claimed that President-elect Trump ordered guards to “shoot the protesters in the legs” during the 2020 protest in Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C., and asked Hegseth if he would carry out such an order.

“I was in the D.C. National Guard in Lafayette Square during these events, holding a riot shield on behalf of my country,” Hegseth responded. “I saw 50 Secret Service agents being injured by riot agents. “
Hirono also asked Hegseth about the sexual assault allegations and claims he drank on the job, both of which he repeatedly denied.
“A clown show,” wrote Voice of Florida Assistant News Director Eric Daughtery.
