Donald Trump Jr. is expected to travel to Greenland on Tuesday, Fox News Digital has learned, after his father, President-elect Donald Trump, expressed interest in the United States “owning and controlling” the country.

A source familiar with Trump Jr.’s plans told Fox News Digital that the president-elect’s son, who is traveling in a personal capacity, is scheduled to arrive in Nuuk, Greenland, at noon on Tuesday to meet locals, visit cultural sites and more.

“As an outdoor enthusiast, I’ve been to some amazing places around the world, and I’m excited to be heading to Greenland this week to have a little fun,” Donald Trump Jr. told Fox News Digital.

A person familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital that Trump Jr. will “take a quick one-day trip to shoot some fun video content for the podcast.”

“He will not be meeting with any government officials or politicians,” the source told Fox News Digital.

The visit comes as President-elect Trump seeks to purchase the mineral-rich and geographically important territory.

U.S. interest in Greenland dates back to the 1800s.

In 1867, the U.S. State Department considered purchasing Greenland and Iceland, recognizing their strategic importance, according to Fox News. After World War II, Denmark rejected President Harry Truman’s $100 million offer to acquire the island.

Acquisition of the land would mark the largest territorial expansion in U.S. history, surpassing the Louisiana Purchase.

But Greenland’s Prime Minister Mutt Egede said last week that his country was not interested.

“Greenland is ours,” he said. “We are not for sale and never will be for sale. We must not lose our long fight for freedom.”
