Biden calls Trump a ‘real threat to democracy’

President Biden lashed out at Trump as he left office, calling the president-elect’s actions a “real threat to democracy.”
Ahead of the anniversary of the U.S. Capitol riots on January 6, 2021, Biden was asked if he still believed Trump was a threat to democracy.
“We have to reestablish basic democratic norms,” Biden told reporters in the East Room of the White House on Sunday. “I think what he’s doing is a real threat to democracy. I hope we can move beyond this.”
Biden made the above remarks to the media after signing the Social Security Equity Act.
Biden also discussed his plans to visit New Orleans on Monday to express condolences to the families of the victims and meet with officials following the New Year’s Day terrorist attack in the city.

“I’ve been through it. There’s nothing you can say to someone who has suffered such a tragic loss. My message will be personal to them,” he said. “They just have to hold on to each other and one day, when they think of their loved ones, they will smile before the tears well up.”

The visit came after police said 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a rental pickup truck into pedestrians on busy Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning, killing 14 People died and dozens were injured. Police shot and killed Jabbar after he fired at police.
“We have established, without question, that a single man acted alone in New Orleans. All talk of conspiring with others, without any evidence of that, is zero,” Biden said.

“I think he does have issues as far as his own mental health. His behavior is the same as what happened in Las Vegas,” Biden said. “But there is no evidence, zero evidence, that these people are foreigners coming across the border, but they work here and they stay here.”
