Saquon Barkley appears to take a shot at Giants after rushing for 2,000 yards in new ad

Saquon Barkley may be teasing his old team with his new ad ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles’ season finale against the New York Giants.

Barkley, who played six seasons with the G-Men before joining the Eagles last offseason, starred in a commercial for Unisom sleep aid.

But the ad carries a cryptic message that may or may not be directed at Giants owner John Mara, who once said “Saquin would have a hard time sleeping if he went to Philadelphia.”

“I heard some of you have trouble sleeping, so I wrote you a lullaby,” Buckley says in the ad. “Rockabye baby, wake up in your bed with 2,000 thoughts in your head. Hovering. It’s hard to lose sleep over football – but not for me.”

Well, that’s exactly what happened, as Barkley put up historic numbers with the Jays.

The Giants were featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” offseason show, and Mara made the now-infamous statement during a discussion with general manager Joe Schoen, who seemed concerned about retaining Barkley was less interested, and Barkley was drafted second overall in 2018 by his predecessor, Dave Gettleman.

Barkley will be rested for the playoffs in Week 18, which would put him 101 yards away from becoming the NFL’s single-season rushing yardage leader and save the Giants from further embarrassment. However, he surpassed the 2,000-yard mark on Sunday after running for 167 yards, becoming the ninth player to reach that mark.

Buckley admitted there was a part of him that wanted to break the record, but he said he had bigger goals in mind.

“He asked me if I wanted to play, if I wanted to play. On Sunday, I probably couldn’t care less about it,” Barkley said this week. “When I was sleeping on it, I thought, this is an opportunity to embed my name in football history. [I] There may never be another opportunity like this.

“So I’m frustrated. But at the end of the day, I don’t want to put the team at risk.”

Instead, he would end up running for 2,005 yards.
