Dolly Parton says she’s ‘ready to go on a diet’ after eating everything she wanted for the holidays

Dolly Parton isn’t stressing out when it comes to enjoying the holidays.

In an interview with Closer magazine, the “Jolene” singer shared some of her family’s favorite holiday traditions. When it comes to overindulgence during the holidays, Parton says she and her family aren’t worried.

“We all started eating around Thanksgiving and continued eating until January 1st, when we all started dieting. Do you know what that was like?” she told the media, according to the Daily Mail. “So you think, ‘Well, I’m not even thinking about dieting right now. I’m just going to eat everything I want.'”

While “you’re stretching your clothes” while enjoying all the delicious holiday food, Parton explained that she doesn’t mind because she knows she’ll be “prepping for a diet after the New Year.”

The singer went on to say that she and her family “go all out for Christmas,” noting that children of different generations have nicknamed her variously, including “Grandma Claus,” “Dolly Claus” or “Gee Giklaus”.

“I’ve been doing this since I had younger siblings,” she said. “They have kids now and their kids have kids now, so I’ve been doing it for years. Christmas is a big thing for us.”

Part of their extended family Christmas tradition is for Parton to prepare a huge feast for her and her extended family.

In addition to dinner, Parton also served her brand of wine, which she said was “great because it goes with different things.”

“We have turkey and ham, black-eyed peas and cornbread dressing, and then a lot of mashed potatoes and coleslaw and stuff like that,” she said of the hearty meal she cooks.

In addition to dinner, another important part of Parton’s Christmas celebrations is when she and her family gather around the piano to sing classic Christmas songs like “O Little Town Bethlehem” and “Silent Night.”

Earlier this year, Parton expressed interest in spending Thanksgiving with the royal family and invited them to a Dollywood vacation.

“Oh, I definitely hope they come to Dollywood, that would be awesome!” she told Closer. “The kids get to go on all the rides and we treat them like royalty! I’ll give Kate my mashed potatoes – I won’t put on any airs for them. I’ll just let them enjoy what we have Something to enjoy, and I’m sure that’s the way they want it, and I’d love to have these kids come to Dollywood.
