5-year-old answers door with gun to police and must be disarmed

A five-year-old boy in Michigan was detained by Child Protective Services after he answered a police door while holding a loaded handgun.

Police arrived at the child’s home in Battle Creek, about 121st Street east of Detroit, on Saturday to serve a citation. When the child first answered the door, he had a large knife in his hand, a Battle Creek Police Department news release said.

One practitioner then told the child to ask his parents to come to the door. The child disappeared for a moment and returned with a gun. Cadets then disarmed the child, the release states.

Patrol officers later responded to the address and located two adult males and one adult female. They were detained and taken to the police station for questioning.

Five children ranging in age from six months to eight years old were killed as a result of the pistol incident and the circumstances within the family. A child was taken to a hospital in Kalamazoo due to health issues.

The home the family lives in is condemned for code compliance. The Calhoun County Prosecutor’s Office is filing weapons charges and ignoring charges against the adults in the home, according to the statement.

Local outlet News 8 reported that a man was arrested at the same residence earlier this month on suspicion of domestic violence-related crimes.

The woman who was arrested allegedly lived at home with the father of one of her children and his friend, the father told the outlet. Her father said she was allegedly beaten at home and informed the police.
