An Indian court has sentenced five men to death for the gang rape and murder of a teenager and the deaths of her father and toddler niece.
The crime occurred in January 2021 when the man gave the girl and her family a ride on a motorcycle while they were waiting for public transport.
They then clubbed the girl’s father to death as he tried to stop the rape and killed her three-year-old niece, prosecutor Sunil Kumar Mishra told AFP .

On Thursday, a day after the court announced its verdict, Mishra said five men were found guilty of rape and triple murder “and sentenced to death.”
He added that the sixth man “was found guilty of conspiracy, but his involvement in the rape has not been proven and he was therefore sentenced to life in prison for the murder”.
India imposes the death penalty but rarely enforces it in practice.
