Texans star Archie Manning to take over after Quinn Ewers declares for draft
The Archie Manning era has begun in Texas.
With Quinn Ewers declaring for the NFL Draft on Wednesday, Manning will have the keys to a Lamborghini for the foreseeable future. If he doesn’t decide to turn pro, he’ll likely be the starting quarterback through at least the 2025 season and possibly even 2026.

He is the son of Cooper Manning, the grandson of former NFL star quarterback Archie Manning, and the nephew of Eli Manning and Peyton Manning. He passed for 939 yards and nine touchdowns this season. He also showed off his mobility by rushing for four touchdowns.

“As quarterbacks, we’re all different and we all have some kind of strengths. I think if Archie is smart, he’s going to figure out ‘What are my strengths?'”
Manning is primarily used in the Longhorns’ run-pass option package, giving defenses different weapons to deal with. He started against Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State when Ewers went down with an injury.
Manning passed for 258 yards and two touchdowns in a 51-3 victory over Louisiana-Monroe. He then passed for 325 yards and two touchdowns to help Mississippi State win 35-13. But after Ewers returned, he returned to a backup role.
The overall offense will take a hit. Top receivers Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond declared for the draft, senior tight end Gunnar Helm is no longer eligible .
