Amazon employees return to offices with some exceptions – Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN)

amazon.com Amazon It began enforcing its global return-to-office policy on Monday, with some reported exceptions.

Several Amazon locations have delayed a return to offices due to a lack of space, and workers in some European countries appear to have more flexible work arrangements than their U.S. counterparts.

Lack of space: Amazon’s mandatory five-day office policy announced last September took effect on Monday. According to a Business Insider report, some office locations have maintained the company’s previous policy of only requiring people to be in the office three days a week due to a lack of space.

Some locations maintaining three-day office policies include Miami, Brooklyn, Sacramento, Santa Clara and Austin in the United States; Hamburg and Munich in Germany; Beijing and Shenzhen in China; and Bangalore in India, according to documents reviewed by Business Insider.

An Amazon spokesperson reportedly told Business Insider on Tuesday that the building was ready for most employees that day.

EU exceptions: A separate report from Business Insider said internal documents show Amazon employees in the UK can apply to work from home for up to two days a week due to flexible working rules that came into effect in the UK last year.

The outlet also reported that employees in the Netherlands could still adhere to Amazon’s previous three-day guidance in the office, pending discussions with the works council representing employees.

The British and Dutch policies stand in stark contrast to the five-day workday policy for other Amazon employees. The company’s “flexible work schedule” policy for the United States said Amazon “may grant “exceptions to work arrangements” to employees in good standing on a case-by-case basis.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy Promotes the work-in-office policy as a way for employees to “invent, collaborate and connect” and suggests those opposed to the policy consider other employment options.
